“An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.” – Jack Welch
The theme for this year’s actKM Conference is ‘Getting Clever about Knowledge’ and explores the question of how organisations can improve the way in which they generate and manage new knowledge.
The conference promises to be excellent, with several international and Australian experts covering topics ranging from the latest technology for storing and managing knowledge, through to cultivating wisdom, leadership and enhancing performance in organisations. Nerida, Matt and myself will all be presenting papers at the event, and are really looking forward to learning about the latest thinking and knowledge management approaches.
Why not make a trip to Canberra and spend three days immersing yourself in Knowledge Management (18-19 October actKM Conference) and Narrative Techniques (Connecting through Conversation 20 October), we would love to see you!

In a bold move the International Riversymposium team has bravely left Brisbane to host the event in Perth! I applaud this initiative, as river protection, restoration and management is happening all around Australia and it is great to have the opportunity to attract people with a new location.
I am particularly excited about the Riversymposium this year, as it is my first as one of the domestic Riverprize judges – what an honour this is as we get down to our final round of judging. I have been so impressed with the quality of applications, and am heartened and thrilled to see so much great work going on in our river, creeks, wetlands and waterways. I encourage anyone who can, to get to Perth, I will be presenting a paper, as well as running a few workshops with Natalie Baker from the International River Foundation on ‘connecting through conversation’ and ‘knowledge sharing’. I look forward to seeing you there! For more information click here.

A new Knowledge and Information Framework outlining how regional natural resource management (NRM) knowledge and information needs across Queensland can be better managed has been released by the Regional Groups Collective (RGC), which represents the state-wide interests of the 14 regional NRM bodies in Queensland. To download the framework click here or visit the Collective Projects page of the RGC website.
The collaborative online wiki www.collections.org.au has also been established to document NRM projects and facilitate knowledge and information sharing for NRM groups.
Thank you to everyone that attended the Knowledge for managing Australian landscapes conference. Two hundred delegates heard from a stellar cast of presenters about achievements, successes and lessons to be learnt from the rich range of investments made by Land & Water Australia. It was an excellent two days, with plenty of conversations, laughter and enjoyment. The ARRC will now work to have all the proceedings of the conference available, with slide casts of each of the presentations, and stories from those that attended. Please subscribe to ARRC news so you can stay up to date with these developments.
